Reducing Instruction Latency
In a platformer, even a tiny hitch is fatal. I was getting these micro-stutters that made the game unplayable. I tried increasing the emulator core count, but that just caused horrible audio tearing, which made me incredibly anxious. To solve this, I used the GamePP Memory Controller Load Monitor to downclock my RAM from 6800MHz to 6000MHz and optimized the secondary timings. It was a game-changer. RTSS showed my frame times dropped from 12-35ms to 8-11ms, and AIDA64 confirmed the response latency was no longer jumping between 72-95ns. My RAM temp stayed a cool 46-52℃ per GamePP Hardware Sensor.
