Can I fix disk I/O lag on the ASRock H310CM-ITX for Banishers?
Every time I load a new map, I'm stuck staring at the loading screen. The speed on this old board is honestly a joke; it's just depressing. The SATA interface on the ASRock H310CM-ITX was hitting I/O wait times of 160-220ms when dealing with fragmented assets, which totally blocked the streaming load. I tried enabling write caching in Windows, but it only improved the speed by 2 seconds and then I had a file corruption issue after a random reboot. That was a total fail. I went into the BIOS to make sure AHCI mode was fully on and switched the disk scheduling policy from Fair Scheduling to Completely Fair Queuing. In CrystalDiskMark, my random 4K reads jumped from 0,6MB/s to 1,4MB/s, and loading times dropped by about 30%. I did have a weird issue where the system boot took 5 seconds longer after the change, but reconfiguring the boot partition cleared it up. Drive temps are stable at 38-44C. I exported the registry tweaks via a system image tool, and the input response finally feels snappy again.
