Does disabling C-State fix input lag on the ASUS B760M-PLUS D4?
The mouse cursor has this weird, floaty drift to it, and that kind of millisecond delay is a total nightmare in high-stakes duels. The C-State mechanism on the ASUS TUF GAMING B760M-PLUS D4 causes the CPU core voltage to bounce between 0,7V and 1,1V during low-load transitions, adding a frustrating 15-22ms of response time. I first tried switching to the High Performance power plan in Windows, but my CPU temps shot up to 88C without any real improvement in lag, which left me feeling pretty anxious. I eventually dove into the BIOS and disabled every single C-State power-saving option, then locked the processor performance state to 100%. Using an input lag tester, the end-to-end latency dropped from 25-38ms to a crisp 12-15ms. The feedback is finally sharp. I did notice that disabling power savings made my idle power draw way too high, so I had to adjust the fan curve to hit 80% speed at 60C to keep things balanced. CPU temps now sit between 65-72C. After several duels, the response is back to normal and it feels like the game is actually following my fingers.
