How to optimize cooling for Galax B760M D4 in Cyberpunk 2077?
The 'Black Knight' branding sounds cool, but this board was giving me a 'frequency rollercoaster' in Night City. My clock speed would be cruising at 4.8GHz and then suddenly dive to 2.4GHz for no apparent reason. It felt like I was playing a slideshow. The VRMs on this B760M D4 were hitting 102℃ in Overdrive mode, triggering the thermal protection. I tried the 'stupid' route of maxing out the power limits in BIOS, but that just pushed the VRMs to 110℃ and caused a hard system crash. Lesson learned. I redesigned my case airflow, added a side intake fan blowing directly onto the power phases, and manually set the PL1 limit to 125W. HWMonitor showed the VRM temps settling between 84-89℃, and the frame drops went from 25 FPS to only about 8 FPS. I actually bumped the RAM sticks and caused a no-boot situation while fixing the fan, but a quick reseat fixed it. CPU temps are now 72-78℃ with fans humming at 1400-1600RPM. It's finally playable, but the VRM cooling on this board is definitely an afterthought.
