How to solve memory bandwidth bottlenecks for Overwatch 2 on Kingston FURY DDR3?
In the middle of a chaotic team fight, I'd get these micro-stutters that completely ruined the competitive feel. The default 10-10-10-30 timings on my Kingston FURY DDR3 1866 resulted in memory latency of 75ns - 85ns, leaving the CPU just idling while waiting for data. I tried increasing the virtual memory to 16GB, but that just spiked my disk usage without helping the 1% lows at all. I went into the BIOS and tightened the primary timings to 9-9-9-28, and carefully bumped the voltage from 1.5V to 1.6V. In AIDA64, the read speed jumped from 12GB/s to 14.2GB/s, and the stuttering dropped significantly. I did have a random reboot ten minutes into a match after the first timing change, but relaxing tRAS from 28 to 30 stabilized everything. RAM temps are 52°C - 58°C and VRMs are 60°C - 66°C. The 1% lows went from a miserable 38 FPS up to 52 FPS, and the RAM stays steady at 52°C - 58°C.
