Fixing Crucial DDR4 3200MHz 8GB bandwidth issues in Like a Dragon: Ishin
During fast scene transitions, I was getting random 15 FPS drops that made the experience feel really janky. A hardware check revealed I was running in single-channel mode, meaning my bandwidth was basically 50% of what it should be, which choked the render pipeline. I tried messing with CPU priority in Windows, but that did absolutely nothing—just a waste of time. I bought a matching stick to enable dual-channel and manually enabled the XMP profile in the BIOS. In the monitoring tool, read speeds jumped from 22 GB/s to 45 GB/s, and frame times dropped from 14-28ms to a rock-steady 9-14ms. I actually had a moment where the PC didn't see the second stick, but cleaning the gold contacts with an eraser fixed it. CPU temps are 60-66℃ and VRMs are 50-56℃. Memory benchmarks confirm the bandwidth is fully unlocked, and frame times are now 9-14ms.
