How to solve thermal throttling for Samsung 9100 PRO PCIe 5.0?
Every time I entered a crowded player base, the game turned into a slideshow. It's ridiculous that a top-tier drive would throttle this hard. The Samsung 9100 PRO was hitting 82,0 - 88,0 C during PCIe 5.0 full-load bursts, triggering thermal throttling that halved the speed and spiked I/O wait times to 150,0 ms. I tried adding a case fan to blow directly on the drive, but it only dropped the temp by 2,0 C—totally useless. I ended up reseating the factory heatsink with a thicker 0,5 mm thermal pad and disabled the PCIe Link State Power Management in the power options. HWiNFO now shows the peak temps capped at 62,0 - 68,0 C, with read speeds staying rock steady above 10000 MB/s. Disabling power management slightly increased idle power draw, but I fixed that by tweaking the sleep mode settings. Temps now hover at 45,0 - 52,0 C. The drive finally performs like it's supposed to.
