Fixing Thermalright PA140 CPU throttling in Kingdom Come
It's honestly ridiculous—using a top-tier cooler like the PA140 and still hitting thermal ceilings in Kingdom Come is just insulting. My core temps were spiking to 98℃ within ten minutes, triggering aggressive throttling that slashed my clocks from 4.5GHz down to a miserable 2.1GHz. I tried stuffing three extra 120mm fans in the case just blowing at the CPU, but the temp only dropped by 2℃—the case airflow is just that bad. I finally went into the BIOS and forced the fan curve to 100% once it hits 80℃, and bumped the front intake fans to a full 12V. In AIDA64 stress tests, the max temp stayed between 82-88℃, and my frame times stabilized from a wild 30-50ms down to 15-22ms. The fans sound like a jet engine taking off now, but I mitigated that by adjusting the fan spin-up delay. Power draw is steady at 120-140W. I saved this profile in the BIOS, and the game finally feels responsive again.
