Fixing RAM bandwidth issues on Biostar B550MH for Dead Space 2?
When the massive scale of the space station opens up, the industrial detail is absolutely breathtaking, but the performance was a nightmare. The default memory config on the Biostar B550MH was losing about 12-18% of its bandwidth when loading huge textures, causing my FPS to jump erratically between 60 and 40. I tried the 'Auto Overclock' in BIOS first, but that just scrambled my timings and led to a blue screen after ten minutes. I realized I had to do this manually. I locked the RAM at 3200MHz, set the primary timings to 16-18-18-38, and bumped the voltage to 1.35V. In AIDA64, my read bandwidth climbed from 38GB/s to 46-50GB/s, and the stuttering vanished. I tried pushing for 3600MHz, but the system started randomly rebooting during boot-up until I loosened tRFC to 600ns to find a stable middle ground. Memory temps are now 44-50°C and the VRMs are stable at 62-68°C. The performance panel confirms the bandwidth is finally where it should be.
