Solving Seagate FireCuda 530 read latency in AC Shadows?
While parkouring across rooftops, my FPS was bouncing wildly between 50 and 75, which was honestly a bit jarring. The FireCuda 530's 4K random reads were struggling with the game's massive amount of small files, with response times swinging between 0.8-1.5ms, leaving my CPU just idling for the disk. I tried Windows 'Ultimate Performance' mode, but that just made my fans sound like a helicopter without fixing the drops—totally useless. I then used a process manager to crank the game's disk I/O priority to 'High' and disabled the system's automatic defrag. In the RTSS frame time graph, the jagged spikes smoothed out into a flat line. I actually hit a snag where my antivirus locked up the system during the first priority tweak, but adding the game folder to the whitelist fixed it. Temps are 48-54℃. The FPS is finally stable.
