Optimizing NVMe Queue Depth
I was so annoyed by the 15-22ms high latency when switching maps in Defense Grid - The Awakening. I first tried increasing the page file size to 32GB, but it dropped the frame rate from 120 to 88 FPS, which was unacceptable. I used GamePP NVMe Queue Depth Configuration to raise the queue depth from 1024 to 2048 and enabled forced write cache refresh. After switching power management to High Performance, CrystalDiskMark showed 4K random read improved from 45-52MB/s to 68-75MB/s. Load time shortened from 12s to 5s, and drive temperature remained stable at 42-55℃ per GamePP. This set of changes finally fixed the issue.
