Can I fix Samsung 9100 PRO system crashes in Expeditions Rome?
It's honestly ridiculous—I bought a top-tier PCIe 5.0 drive only for the game to crash to a black screen. The Samsung 9100 PRO was struggling with massive small-file reads, and the link was flipping between Gen5 and Gen4, causing synchronization errors that triggered a driver reset. I tried dropping all graphics settings to minimum, but it still crashed, which told me this wasn't a VRAM issue but a storage link conflict. I went into the BIOS and forced the M.2 slot to Gen4 instead of 'Auto' and added an active cooling fan. After two hours of gameplay, the crashes (which happened every 30 mins) completely stopped, and load speeds still stayed above 6000MB/s. Sure, I lost about 3000MB/s in sequential reads by locking it to Gen4, but I'd take that over a crashing PC any day. Temps are now stable at 45-52℃ with the fan at 2000RPM. Windows Event Viewer shows zero storage timeout errors now, and the fan stays locked at 2000RPM.
