Solving Intel 760P cache saturation in Far Cry 7
Entering a jungle outpost is a pain—the loading bar just hangs at 70% for eight seconds, which totally kills the immersion. Once the Intel 760P's dynamic SLC cache fills up, write speeds crater from 3,000 MB/s to under 800 MB/s, blocking the asset stream. I tried setting the virtual memory to half the remaining drive space, but that just caused more I/O conflicts and actually increased load times—a lesson in not blindly following generic advice. I eventually bumped the NVMe controller queue depth from 1,024 to 2,048 and enabled the forced write cache flush in Windows performance options. CrystalDiskMark showed 4K random reads improving from 42-50 MB/s to 65-72 MB/s, cutting load times by 30%. I had some weird drive detection lag at idle at first, but switching to the High Performance power plan cleared it up. Temps are 40-50 C, and RAM is holding at 58-63 C.
