Solving RAM overheating with Noctua NH-D15S in Ark 2?
While exploring the prehistoric wilds, I kept getting these tiny 0.5s hitches that are absolutely lethal in a game like this. Monitoring showed that the massive bulk of the Noctua NH-D15S was choking the RAM airflow, pushing memory temps to 62-68℃ and causing spikes in memory controller latency. I tried downclocking the RAM from 6000MHz to 5600MHz, but it only dropped the temp by 2℃ and actually slowed down my loading times—a total waste of effort. Instead, I shifted the front intake fan up by 1cm to clear the heat buildup over the RAM slots and bumped the rear exhaust to 1200 RPM. HWInfo showed the RAM settling at 52-56℃, and CPU cores dropped by 4-6℃. I did have a brief scare where the fan started rubbing against the fins after the move, but tightening the clips killed the noise. CPU now sits at 72-78℃. Stress tests confirm the memory latency is back to normal, and the hardware check is complete.
