How to fix memory latency spikes in Dead Space Remake?
Whenever I whipped my camera around the Ishimura corridors, I noticed this subtle screen tearing and micro-stuttering that completely killed the horror vibe. The default timings on the Kingston 16GB DDR4 2666 (19-19-19-42) are way too conservative, pushing memory latency up to 92-105ns and basically choking the CPU's instruction pipeline. I first tried enabling the High Performance power plan in Windows, but while the clock speeds jumped, my 1% lows were still hovering around 20 FPS, which left me totally baffled. I eventually dove into the BIOS and manually tightened the primary timings to 16-18-18-36, while bumping the DRAM voltage from 1.2V to 1.35V. After running AIDA64, I saw the read latency drop from 98ns to a much tighter 76-82ns, and the scene transitions finally felt fluid. It wasn't a smooth ride though; my first attempt caused a BSOD on boot until I loosened the tRAS from 36 to 40. Now, temps are sitting steady at 42-48℃, and stress tests show zero errors with frame times locked between 5.1-6.4ms.
