Why is Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition stuttering in tunnels?

Tunnel loading was painfully slow. I tried increasing virtual memory, but it made things worse. I used GamePP NVMe Queue Depth Config to set 2048 depth. 4K random read hit 65-70MB/s per GamePP. Write speed stabilized above 3500MB/s. Smooth traversal.
