How to fix clock speed fluctuations on the DeepCool AK500?
The stealth gameplay was smooth as butter until it suddenly started stuttering, and that lack of fluidity got me killed in a firefight. Checking the logs, the DeepCool AK500 ARGB Ice Cube was hitting a wall between 88-92℃, causing the CPU clock to bounce violently between 4.2GHz and 3.6GHz. I tried switching to the High Performance power plan, but that just pushed the core to 98℃ and triggered a hard shutdown within two minutes—absolute nightmare. I ripped the cooler off and found the stock paste had uneven gaps under pressure. I swapped it for a 12.5 W/mK high-conductivity paste using the five-dot method. In RTSS, core temps dropped by 12-15℃ under the same load, and the clock finally sat steady at 4.8-5.1GHz. During the second mount, I actually had one core running 5℃ hotter than the rest due to uneven bracket pressure, but a slight tweak to the screw torque fixed it. Fans are now humming at 1200-1500 RPM, keeping noise under 35dB. Ran a Cinebench R23 loop to confirm no more throttling, and the hardware is finally sorted.
