Optimizing Thermalright PA120 V3 cooling for Days Gone game
The screen suddenly had periodic frame drops during the most intense fights, and the performance dip was obvious when handling lots of physics debris. Looking at the logs, the Thermalright PA120 V3 fan speeds ramped up too slowly between 70-85℃ (AIDA64 monitoring), leaving core temps lingering between 88-94℃ (HWiNFO monitoring). I first tried setting fans to full speed in BIOS, but the high-pitched whine was audible even through my headphones; it was just not a rational move. Then I used the GamePP Fan Curve Config Panel to sharply increase the slope at 75℃ and set a 2-second temperature hysteresis.
